I recently returned from a short getaway to one of Bali’s most breathtaking and peaceful destinations—Sidemen Valley—and I can honestly say it was one of the most soul-refreshing experiences I’ve ever had. If you're tired of the crowds in Canggu or Ubud and want to feel the real heart of Bali, this is where you need to go.
I booked the trip through Vacapulse, and Desi, the founder, took care of everything with so much heart. From the moment I reached out, she made sure every detail was handled—where to stay, what to explore, and even little things like what snacks I’d enjoy on the journey. Her passion for connecting people to the real Indonesia really shines through, and you can feel it in the way she plans every experience.
Driving into Sidemen felt like entering a different world. The roads wind through emerald rice terraces, tiny traditional villages, and panoramic views of Mount Agung. It was quiet, calm, and deeply beautiful. I stayed at a small, locally-run guesthouse surrounded by rice fields as far as the eye could see. At night, there were no crowds, no parties—just the sound of nature and the occasional murmur of evening prayers from nearby homes.
The next day, a local guide took me on a walk through the rice fields. But this wasn’t a typical tourist trail—it felt like being welcomed into someone’s backyard. We met farmers tending their crops, watched ducks splash through the irrigation paths, and even tried planting rice by hand. We also visited a tiny hillside coffee farm where I tasted palm sugar coffee for the first time—smooth, sweet, and unforgettable. Sitting there overlooking the valley with a warm cup in hand, I felt completely present.
The following morning, I joined a sunrise yoga session with a view of the valley. As the sky shifted from gold to blue and Mount Agung slowly appeared through the mist, I felt a kind of peace I haven’t felt in a long time. Later, Desi arranged for me to visit a local woman who still weaves traditional Balinese textiles by hand. She showed me every step of her craft, and I was able to buy a beautiful scarf directly from her—not a souvenir, but something meaningful, made with love and history.
What made this trip truly special wasn’t just the scenery or the food (though both were amazing), but the feeling of being genuinely connected—to the land, to the people, and to myself. It reminded me of what Bali used to be before it became overrun with tourists and influencers. Sidemen Valley still holds that authenticity, that gentle rhythm of life that so many travelers long for.
If you ever want to experience a side of Bali that’s pure, heartfelt, and completely unforgettable, let Desi plan it for you. She doesn’t just create tours—she opens a door to real moments, real people, and a Bali that still whispers to your soul. I came back deeply grateful, with a heart full of beauty and peace that will stay with me for a long time.
